
The optimum management of water as a resource to improve the quality of life. This is what 36 engineers and managers coming from countries severely affected by water shortage have learnt attending the 7th Training Program HYDROAID 2008. The diplomas were awarded today at the Sala delle Colonne (Municipality of Turin), and such occasion also offered the group the opportunity to thank the HYDROAID Association. Born with the purpose of transferring the know-how of sustainable technologies and means in the field of water resources management to the countries in need, HYDROAID organizes its courses at the ILO’s International Training Center of Turin, with the pedagogic support of the University, the Politecnico and primary local companies of water services. The main activity is aimed at holding theoretical and practical training courses on the implementation and management of infrastructures and water services, (drinking water, sewerage, treatment and possible re-use of waste water).
The participants, who attended the course as from mid-October, came from several areas in the world and had the opportunity of specializing in governance of water systems and services, management of the water resources and use of water in agriculture, supply systems for drinking purposes and irrigation. ”You will be the ambassadors in your country”, underlined the Councilor for International Cooperation, Mr. Michele Dell’Utri, “once back home, you will be able to put into practice what you learnt during this course ". Ms. Rossella Monti, Hydroaid’s C.E.O., intervened to the ceremony together with the Councilor of Environment of the Regional Council of Piedmont, Mr. Nicola de Ruggiero, the Deputy Director of ILO, Mr. Dario Arrigotti, the Diplomatic Councilor of the Regional Council of Piedmont, Mr. Giancarlo Piccato and Professor Angelo Garibaldi, who attended on behalf of the University Headmaster, Mr. E. Pelizzetti. Ms. Rossella Monti reiterated the support of the Association to these professionals, who are now an integral part of the working group. The Water for Development Management Institute is supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by the Municipality of Turin, the Province Council of Turin, Politecnico, SMAT, Regional Council of Piedmont, bank foundations of Turin, Chamber of Commerce, CSI-Piemonte and ENAS.
